The good the bad and the ugly design
Like many people out there, I was scrolling on instagram, and falling into the black hole that I have lost hours of my life to. I stumbled across an instagram account that is both terrifying and amazing. @Pleasehatethesethings is a page created by interior Designer Dina Holland. Alongside her sarcastic commentary, she posts a collection of the most absurd interior and real estate fails, and they make an absolutely hilarious pairing.
I for one, am not an interior designer by any stretch of the imagination. But who doesn’t like to get carried away on Pinterest and instagram, curating their perfect virtual home. However, these images are a far cry (and a welcome break) from the beautifully crafted interiors accounts I follow on social media.
When asked by Architectural Digest how these decor mistakes happen, Dina said “It’s a lack of communication between the designer and owner. As a designer, people hire you to have an opinion, I think a lot of younger designers don’t have the confidence to go in and say, ‘No, that’s not the right look.”
A cabinetmakers nightmare! During the design process, I have to be painstakingly precise with my measurements as handmade kitchens are made to fit perfectly. This on the other hand, with its wonky and awkward cabinet lines, looks like it comes straight out of a modern Alice in Wonderland book.
Taking a gloss finish to the next level. We have to give this one the benefit of the doubt with the amount of effort and detail included, it must have been on trend at some point! At least its child proof!
I am no stranger to traditional shaker cabinetry and exposed brickwork, I’ll keep this design in mind for the couple which do not share food!
This page has provided me with endless laughs, from bizarre toilet placements to ill advised decor choices, they are all gems! I think I will stick to what I know and stay designing bespoke shaker kitchens!
