Beautifully simple,
Simply beautiful.

The ‘Georgian’ Classical English Collection

The luxurious simplicity and timelessness of the aesthetic means our Georgian Classical English Bespoke Kitchens Collection works well in period properties and modern homes alike.

While our ‘Kingham’ Shaker Collection is inspired by the downstairs utilitarian work kitchen, the Georgian Classical English Collection is very much, architecturally speaking, the ‘upstairs’ of our historic homes.

Whilst maintaining the solid foundations of the beautifully simple traditional shaker cabinetry, the style of these bespoke kitchens embody the essence of Georgian furniture design. To its timeless elegance, striking symmetry and complimentary proportions we have added the classical detailing so admired from the Georgian period. Staff beaded framing, profiled lamb’s tongue and quadrant mouldings just lift this furniture to another level of individuality. Finesse is found in the detailing too: from the mouldings to the cornices and skirtings, the embellishments and friezes have hints of neo-classic architecture but maintain the restraint of our ‘Georgian’ style.

The composition, although subtle, is from one of the most tasteful periods in history and carries a delightfully impressive class that is so enduring and timeless. It creates a sense of space by working with, and making  the most of, the natural light available from the large multi-paned sash windows that are inherent in Georgian residences.

Picture the elegance of Chippendale design and the lightest of touches from the  Georgian interiors and era, and you will get a feel for our bespoke kitchens collection. It will stand the test of time as has the love for things associated with the Georgian era.

A refined but more meticulous offer than the traditional Shaker style, the collection lends itself best to paler colours and neutrals, such as soft greens like French Grey from Farrow and Ball, pale greys like Sloane Square from Mylands and off-whites like Slaked Lime from Little Greene. That said, why not go archival and authentically bold with some Farrow and Ball Stiffkey Blue, Myland’s Messel or Little Greene’s Spanish Brown.

Although Charlie’s starting point is to allow the freedom that bespoke offers and design the cabinetry to compliment the room’s proportions, the higher the ceiling, the better with this style of kitchen as the elevation adds to the elegance of the design and matches the architectural heritage from the age that inspired this furniture. We think floor to ceiling cabinets in the palest grey is a beautiful choice here (this can be seen in our Guildford showroom). Add in some beautiful mantels and canopies and the ‘Georgian’ inspired bespoke kitchens are almost complete.

The Georgians were inspired by masonry, especially marbles and travertine limestones. We have drawn inspiration from this ethos and find that natural stones and quartz complement our Classic ‘Georgian’ English Collection and work beautifully with the pale colours of the cabinetry that pair so elegantly with the soft organic patterns and shades available in these materials.

Our favourite hardware for this collection just has to have an aged and natural patina to fully embrace Georgian adornment. The likes of an aged finish, such as burnished brass, copper or nickel ironmongery sits so sweetly with the whole feel of the finished look. We just adore ‘D’ pull handles with matching reeded knobs or cup handles along with teardrop toggle pulls that work so well with this particular cabinetry.

Upstairs or downstairs, the luxurious simplicity and timelessness of the aesthetic means our Georgian Classical English Collection works well in period properties and modern homes alike and combines equally well with modern appliances from the likes Miele and Gaggenau and more traditional ones such as range cookers from Aga and Wolf.

Can you envisage your dream kitchen in this style? We can. It’s our pleasure to create an exclusive and unique design that is truly bespoke and personal to you, our valued clientele. So why not call Charlie and see what he’s able to conjure?
